How do you put AI into practice in your small business
Still not sure how to use AI in your Kiwi small business? A new AI Advisory Pilot from the NZ Government aims to change that, with expert advice on the business benefits of AI.
“Q: I know AI can be useful. But how do I start using AI tools in my business in a more practical and productive way?”
The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought a wealth of new business-focused AI tools and apps onto the market. When used sensibly and with real foresight, AI can go a long way towards streamlining and automating the key processes in your business.
The problem for most small business owners is knowing where AI is most applicable in their operations and which apps will be most beneficial in the long term.
“A: Joining the new government-backed AI pilot will give you the AI skills and experience you need to make smart technology work for you.”
If you’re one of the many NZ small business owners that would welcome a guiding hand when adopting AI tools, we have good news for you!
The NZ Government is running a new AI pilot scheme that will help small businesses overcome the common barriers you’ll face when accessing AI tools. The goal is to help Kiwi small businesses get to grips with AI in a way that expands their knowledge of the technology, boosts their productivity and unlocks growth.
When announcing the AI Advisory Pilot, Small Business and Manufacturing Minister, Chris Penk, outlined the core aim of the pilot for Kiwi small businesses:
“This pilot programme will give small business owners practical support from trusted experts so they can confidently use AI tools that lift productivity and help them stay competitive in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.”
“Eligible businesses will receive co-funding of up to 50 percent, capped at $15,000, to develop an AI plan tailored to the needs of their business, workers and customers. With support from experienced specialists, they can then put that plan into action.”
Here’s a quick overview of the scheme:
$765,000 has been initially allocated to the AI Advisory Pilot from within existing MBIE appropriations.
The pilot will run from 19 January 2026 to at least 30 June 2026 and is expected to include a minimum of 51 small-and-medium enterprises.
